If you call, he will likely be the first voice you hear when the phone is answered. He will help you figure out how to get your project moving, what it will take, and set you up with a team that is best suited for what you need to accomplish. In Gil's words: "I founded Coretechs 40 years ago. Over that time I have worked with numerous clients on technology consulting, software development and business operations. I can show you how strategically focused software development will help drive your business growth. After graduating with degrees in computer science and electrical engineering I worked a five-year stint at IIT Research. Life led me to form Coretechs in 1986 and ever since we've been helping our clients grow their business through the multiplying power of custom software development. I always aim to deliver true value to our customers and work hard to make sure their experience is the best it can possibly be." Fun fact: I enjoy spending time with my family and building construction projects of any size! ### James https://www.coretechs.com/our_team/james/ Partner, 21 Years on the Team As the Vice President of Coretechs, James is the Swiss army knife of the team. While Gil handles most new customers and phone calls, James moves from project to project, keeping things on track and on time. James has worked in nearly every language and if you work with Coretechs long enough, he will likely work on your project himself at some point. He moves seamlessly from system design, Python and PHP development, project architecture, and problem resolution with ease. In James's words: "My name is James Bloomer and I am a partner at Coretechs Consulting. After college, I started my career in the federal government as a web developer at Social Security. After a couple of years, I felt this was too restrictive for me and it led me to look for a fit in the private sector. That is when I found Coretechs. I have been at Coretechs now for over 20 years and have worked with all kinds of client portfolios. I really enjoy getting to know the clients and their businesses. My favorite activity is visiting clients in person so I can better understand their development needs. If I can help grow my client's business with technical support and development, then I consider that a successful partnership." Fun fact: Golfing, ping pong, and darts are my go-to games! ## Our Process When you call Coretechs, you won't get an answering service or an AI. If you call during the day, you will get a staff member to answer the phone. 99% of the time it will be Gil, and you'll be well on your way to getting your project started. Don't hesitate to call, as this is not like buying a used car. We will answer questions, give advice, and figure out what you need, but we will not pressure you to commit to anything or start any project you aren't comfortable with. We can come up with a project plan and an estimate, and then hand it back to you to proceed at your own pace when you're ready for your project to begin. - Our Process: https://www.coretechs.com/the-sales-process-at-coretechs/ Here is how the process works, in six steps: 1. Talk to Gil. We have this plastered all over the website for a reason. It's the single fastest way to get started. You get to provide as much information as possible about your current situation and how we can help. We'll start listening immediately and won't waste your time going through a formulaic approach with a lot of rote questions. Your challenges are unique and the hallmark of the custom software development experience is treating every situation on its own merits. 2. Discuss Your Needs. This is NOT a high pressure sales process. If we're going to be working together we need to be a good fit for your needs and each other. Gil has over 40 years of experience in the software development industry and our 30 person team of developers, designers and project managers are the best there is. We can dive right into the technical requirements for your project and offer immediate feedback on what might help. 3. Get Feedback and Estimate. Most of the time we can give you a fairly quick idea of what it's going to take to bring your vision to reality. Some things that are useful to have ready for the call are: urls of your current software, if any; language; frameworks; versions; repositories; hosting; access credentials; design requirements; wire-frames. That's a long list and you may not have any of it, but if you're considering your options those are all good things to know regardless of where your next steps take you. 4. Finalize Contract and Retainer. The list of things we need to get you on board is pretty short; a contract and a small retainer. We have a short contract that we work with, which some people might describe more like a master services agreement. It does not bind you to any long-term agreement. You own 100% of your system, your code, your site, your concept. If you decide at any time to find a new provider you own and manage the hosting account (typically at Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure) and have complete control of that environment. 5. Project Execution Begins. With a contract in hand we can get started as soon as you're ready. We constantly have team members whose activity level changes and they're ready to get started on something new. The basic team makeup on any new client engagement includes a project manager and a lead developer. 6. Your System Goes Live. We're eager to get your MVP (minimally viable product) live asap. The sooner you go live the sooner you can start to build business, get feedback on the new site and get your team and customers using the new tools to make sales. We find this creates a virtuous cycle where your business becomes more efficient and you see the value in further investments in your technology. ## Our History Gil founded Coretechs more than 40 years ago. With the increase of websites and computer usage in the 90s, Coretechs began to grow and hire on staff. What started as a small company doing everything from running cables to building servers, eventually became a consulting firm focused squarely on custom software development for businesses and government agencies. Many of our staff members joined in the 2000s, and are still here today. Our team continued to grow in the 2010s and 2020s, resulting in a team of more than 30 today, with most of our staff having been here for more than 10 years at this point. - Our History: https://www.coretechs.com/coretechs-turns-40/ In 1986, only a few years out of college, Gil was working at IIT Research Institute (IITRI) as an associate engineer, having graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. At IITRI he built a terminate and stay resident assembly language system to manage incoming client calls and track requests. It was actually considered for a patent but ultimately did not make it. However, it did whet his appetite for more software development. In 1986, given a passion for all things computer and a burgeoning desire for entrepreneurship, Gil started building a side-business in custom software development and technical support called Coretechs. Eventually, in 1989, he left IITRI to pursue the dream full-time. Throughout the 1980s and into the mid 1990s Coretechs helped numerous clients with their office computers, server management, local area networks, cabling and custom software development, mostly writing code in Microsoft Access and Visual Basic, with help from a revolving group of 2-3 team members. In the mid 1990s Gil started helping his friend Will Moore at Acorn Enterprises International with clients such as Travisa (now CIBT and still a client 28 years later) and Navigant Consulting (now Guidehouse). In late 1999 Gil bought Acorn Enterprises International, merged it into Coretechs Consulting and proceeded to prepare for Y2K. Now armed with a growing clientele and focused on Perl, we started to form the core of our operations, our team. In the early 2000s partner James Bloomer joined to take on the 21st century. Other stalwarts who also joined the team around that time were Matt, Jon and Bobby, who've each been here 20 years or more. Others joined a little later and have been here 15 years or so, like Kiko, Dipin, Ryan, Jawad, Ricarda and Susan. As we started to reach our stride we determined that keeping our focus on custom software development was where our true strength lay, so we slowly whittled down our IT maintenance work. As we moved into the 2010s with so many long-term clients it was inevitable that as private equity acquisitions became a trend some of our clients would be acquired by larger companies. In many cases the new companies saw the value in continuing to work with our seasoned, long-tenured team and often stayed with us even long after the transition. As the needs of our clients grew more varied and our capabilities increased (Python, PHP, .Net, Java, Coldfusion) we continued to grow the team, bringing on Vinod, Jonathan, Louis, Keith, Fabrice, Hariz, Samuel, Manos, Nebu, Alex and Arthur. Through every decade we've tried to follow a few simple truths: - Treat your team well and they'll return the favor ten-fold - Operate your business with honor and integrity - Always provide clear, honest advice to your clients and you'll never go wrong ## Case Studies Coretechs has a proven track record of helping companies increase sales and work smarter through efficient use of technology. - All Case Studies: https://www.coretechs.com/case-studies/ ### Cleaning Workforce Management https://www.coretechs.com/case_studies/cleaning-workforce-management/ Partnered with a leading industrial cleaning company to scale from a regional operation into a multi-state service provider over a decade. For over a decade our team has partnered with a leading industrial cleaning company as they expanded from a regional operation into a multi-state service provider. When they first came to us, their systems were fairly basic. A patchwork of spreadsheets, email threads, and outdated scripts handled job tracking. Scheduling, dispatching, and updates were all done manually. Field technicians received assignments via text, sent photos through email, and invoices were compiled days later. Clients had little visibility, and leadership had no clear way to see what was happening where or when. Now imagine doing that 40+ times a day. What they needed wasn't just a better tool, they needed a connected platform: something that worked in the field, synced in real time, and gave everyone (admin, tech, and client) full visibility. The scenario: a technician begins their morning at home. The dispatcher assigns a high-rise cleaning job through the system. Before leaving, the technician needs everything: route details, client contact, access codes, and a checklist available on their phone. During the job, they take photos and videos for proof, mark tasks complete, then move on to the next jobsite. Meanwhile, the admin team sees updates in real time, auto-generates invoices, and notifies the client that the job's done; all before the technician even arrives at their second stop. The technologies we decided upon and why we selected them: - PHP (Backend). Fast and familiar. Our team could iterate quickly while keeping the structure stable and RESTful. - React Native (CLI). Dual-platform support with deep native features, crucial for field photo uploads, offline mode, and push notifications. - Vue.js, BootstrapVue (Frontend). Ideal for building flexible admin dashboards with powerful filter tables for jobs, clients, and invoices. - Stripe (Payment Gateway). Easiest way to get customers to pay on time, securely, and without any extra dev overhead. - SendGrid, Firebase (Email and realtime database). For seamless email and push notifications; reminders, job summaries, alerts. Where the stack lives: we deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for flexibility and scale. EC2 instances hosted the PHP backend, APIs, and admin portal behind a load balancer within a secure VPC, with a blue-green deployment strategy for zero downtime updates. S3-compatible storage holds job photos, PDFs, and uploads, compressed and served via pre-signed URLs. CloudFront CDN accelerates delivery for mobile users, even on weak connections. Automated backups run every 6 hours, with proactive monitoring through AWS CloudWatch and alerting via SendGrid. How we implemented: from the beginning, we treated this as more than a software project, it was about understanding how the business actually ran. We analyzed workflows, communication patterns, and on-site realities. The focus stayed on core operations: job scheduling, technician dispatch, checklist tracking, proof-of-work photo uploads, invoice automation, real-time reporting. The mobile experience was crafted for real-world conditions: quick access, offline support, and low-data uploads. During busy seasons, focus shifted to service tracking and reporting; when payments lagged, invoice automation took precedence. We released frequent updates, tested them with real users, gathered feedback, and iterated rapidly. ### Travel Journal App https://www.coretechs.com/case_studies/travel-journal-app/ Built a native social travel app from the ground up. Coretechs partnered with a long-time client to build a native social travel app from the ground up. The goal: let people categorize real-world experiences into shareable Guides so friends and fellow travelers can discover, copy, and personalize those lists for their own trips. The scenario: Suzie visits Chicago, The Bean, a nearby café, and the Navy Pier Ferris wheel, and saves them into a Guide with brief notes and a cover image. She shares the Guide in-app and to external apps. Later, Laura plans her trip, opens the app, explores Suzie's Guide, and copies the places she wants into her own Guide, reordering and adding notes so she remembers what to visit. The technologies we decided upon and why we selected them: - Django REST Framework. Our team is very comfortable with Django and highly recommends it for a project with significant ongoing development. It has continuous security updates and built in libraries for a lot of features such as sophisticated user management. - Swift (iOS Development). Uses SwiftUI and Combine for reactive programming. Enables declarative UI updates tied to user interaction, such as saving a place, liking a guide, or browsing the map. The map feature was emphasized as an important feature and was a strong motivation for the technology choice. - Kotlin (Android). This was a new technology choice for our team at the time, so we understood there would be a bit of a learning curve. However we liked that Kotlin uses Jetpack Compose and Android architecture components like LiveData and ViewModel for managing UI state, local caching, and user interactions. - Mapbox (Location Services). Renders the core interactive map experience with custom-styled vector maps, offline tile support, dynamic pin clustering, and smooth transitions for zooming and panning. - Google Places API (Location Details). We are familiar with several Google products and wanted to utilize the metadata that comes with this API. Where the stack lives: we frequently suggest Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosting out of the box, as it allows the most flexibility for growth no matter where you are running your business from. EC2 hosts the Django backend, load-balanced and auto-scaled to handle traffic spikes, with each instance running within a VPC for security. S3 stores user-generated media like profile images and guide cover photos, with lifecycle rules and permission policies. CloudFront acts as a global CDN to deliver media assets with low latency. How we implemented: one aspect often overlooked by development teams, but essential to a project's success, is understanding the client's business. We recognized that, as a new social media platform, the product could quickly go viral or shift direction based on public response. This reinforced the decision to host in AWS. The team collaborated with an independent designer to wireframe the app's look, functionality, and flow. Once wireframes were delivered, we aligned priorities around upcoming investor meetings, identifying which features and pages were most critical to demonstrate, and focused development on those high-visibility elements first. During the feedback cycle we tackled secondary pages such as onboarding and login. We used TestFlight to manage, test, and review the app with select stakeholders before entering the marketplace. ### Golf Simulator Management https://www.coretechs.com/case_studies/golf-simulator-management/ Developed a custom membership and venue booking system for virtual golf lounges. When the client came to us, they weren't looking for just another booking tool, they needed a system that could keep up with the growing membership of their virtual golf venues. With two high-energy locations combining immersive golf simulators, food, drinks, and constant foot traffic, their team was juggling too many moving parts without the right support behind the scenes. Reservations were tracked with SpotOn, but staff managed memberships through phone calls, emails, and guesswork. SpotOn didn't offer native support for memberships, meaning there was no way to differentiate members from one-time guests or apply special access rules and perks automatically. Staff maintained their own list of members manually and were forced to intervene in the booking process any time a member wanted to schedule time. The main goal was to create a membership application that could use APIs to connect to SpotOn and manage member data. The technologies we decided upon and why we selected them: - Python / Django (Backend). We rely on Django to provide a solid and scalable backend foundation. Its comprehensive features, security best practices, and mature ecosystem help us develop efficiently without duplicating common functionality. - Vue.js (Frontend). Vue offers the flexibility and performance needed to create responsive admin interfaces. It excels at rendering complex data tables with advanced filters. - PostgreSQL (Database). Known for rock-solid reliability and performance at scale, ideal as the client grows to support multiple venues, players, and booking systems. Its ACID compliance ensures every transaction is accurate and consistent, even under heavy load. - Stripe (Payments). For handling payments securely and seamlessly, we used Stripe Connect to automate revenue sharing between locations. - Twilio and SendGrid (Messaging). SendGrid for email and Twilio for SMS, ensuring timely notifications for location staff and management throughout the user journey. - SpotOn. A strong fit because it not only streamlines secure payments but also allows you to create and manage memberships through customizable recurring plans. Where the stack lives: we selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host the entire system. Django runs on EC2 instances, powering the backend logic for invoicing and managing user access and permissions. RDS securely hosts member records, customer information, and pricing configurations, with built-in redundancy and automated daily backups. System performance and errors are tracked through CloudWatch, with proactive alerts set up to flag server issues and application errors early. How we implemented: we believe great software starts with understanding how a business actually runs. We kicked off the project by sitting down with the team to understand their workflow in detail. How were memberships tracked? What happened when a member wanted to book a bay? Where did things break down on a busy Saturday night? Our goal was to create a clean, intuitive user experience for both guests and returning members, while building backend functionality to automate what had previously required manual effort: member validation, bay availability, time restrictions, and more. New features were rolled out to a staging environment for hands-on testing and feedback, letting their team see progress in real time and get ahead of staff training well before launch. ### Maritime Charter Booking https://www.coretechs.com/case_studies/maritime-charter-booking/ Built a modern booking and scheduling platform designed specifically for marinas and charter operators. Coretechs partnered with a client in the maritime industry to build a modern booking and scheduling platform designed for marinas and charter operators. From the start, the vision was clear: replace the industry's patchwork of spreadsheets, phone calls, and calendars with a single connected system that simplifies daily operations. With no legacy system to migrate, we had a blank canvas and a client who deeply understood the challenges. Before the platform, marinas relied on paper logs, texts, and manual updates, often leading to double bookings, missed calls, and lost revenue. The scenario: a customer wants to book a sunset cruise. The marina admin checks a paper calendar, calls the captain to confirm availability, and updates a spreadsheet. Meanwhile, another customer inquires about the same time slot but there's no real-time way to know it's already taken. The platform we built changed that completely. Now, each booking is updated instantly, synced across users, and viewable from any device. We had to serve three distinct audiences: marina admins need a clean, mobile-friendly dashboard; captains need self-serve tools to block dates and confirm trips; customers need simple booking interfaces that just work. The technologies we decided upon and why we selected them: - Python / Django. Our team trusts Django for projects that need a reliable, future-proof foundation. With its mature ecosystem, proven security model, and extensive built-in features, Django allows us to move quickly without reinventing the wheel. - Vue 3, Quasar Framework, Vue ChartJS (Frontend). Vue gave us flexibility, and Quasar gave us polish, perfect for mobile-ready admin tools captains could use right from the dock. Vue ChartJS provides visual dashboards for revenue, bookings, and performance. - PostgreSQL (Database). Structured, scalable, and rock-solid. Great for managing bookings, timezone handling, and preventing conflicts across multiple marinas. - Stripe and ACH (Payment Gateway). Secure, automated payments. Stripe Connect allowed revenue splits between marinas and captains, and ACH enabled direct bank deposits. - Twilio and SendGrid (Communication). Automated SMS and email alerts kept everyone, admins, captains, and clients, informed in real time. Where the stack lives: we built the foundation on Amazon Web Services (AWS). EC2 instances run the Python backend, manage the APIs, and serve the admin dashboard, load-balanced and kept healthy with rolling deployments and constant monitoring. S3 storage is used for boat images, manifests, and documents. CloudFront CDN helps media and assets load fast everywhere. Monitoring and backups are built in; CloudWatch watches for issues and snapshots run on a schedule. How we implemented: we don't just build features, we align development with how clients actually work. We started by mapping real workflows, from booking to manifest to payment. That informed the first sprints: real-time booking, automated alerts, and shared calendars. From there, we prioritized based on operational value. If captains needed an easier way to block off time, it fell in that sprint. If admins struggled with late manifests, we automated them ASAP. Internal builds were shared with real users, captains, owners, and marina teams, so we could gather real-world feedback early and often. ### Tutoring Team Invoicing https://www.coretechs.com/case_studies/tutoring-team-invoicing/ Created a specialized high-stakes academic support and invoicing platform. When the client approached us, they weren't looking for just another tutoring platform, they needed a development team who understood how personal and high-stakes academic support really is. Their model was already working: tailored chemistry tutoring, real exam prep, and a sharp focus on student outcomes. What they needed was a tool to manage invoicing for students and tutors. The client had a growing tutoring business with a unique challenge: no two tutors were the same. Each one had their own hourly rate, their own students, and their own schedule. On top of that, some student-tutor pairs had custom pricing arrangements, all of which had to be tracked manually by the business owner. Invoices were being handled through spreadsheets and emails. Tutors couldn't see or manage their own invoices independently, and worse, all tutors had visibility into each other's rates and billing history, a clear privacy and security issue. The system needed to: - Allow each tutor to view and manage only their own invoices - Support flexible pricing by tutor and by student-tutor pairing - Give the client admins full access and control - Keep data secure, clean, and easy to manage The technologies we decided upon and why we selected them: - Python / Django. We selected Django for its stability, mature ecosystem, and robust security features. It's a battle-tested framework that lets us build and iterate quickly, making it ideal for long-term projects that need to grow and scale efficiently. - PostgreSQL (Database). A powerful, reliable database system well-suited for structured data. Its strengths in handling time zones, preventing scheduling conflicts, and supporting complex queries made it a natural fit for managing many tutors. - Stripe and ACH (Payment Gateway). We integrated Stripe Connect for handling payments and splitting revenue between tutors and ownership. ACH support allowed us to process direct bank transfers with ease. - Twilio and SendGrid (Communication). Twilio powered our SMS notifications, while SendGrid handled emails, keeping tutors, customers and management in sync every step of the way. Where the stack lives: we deployed everything to Amazon Web Services (AWS), a choice that gave us the reliability and flexibility needed for both the MVP and future growth. EC2 instances run the Django backend and handle all the invoicing logic and user permissions. RDS stores invoice data, user accounts, and pricing rules securely, with daily backups and redundancy. How we implemented: from the beginning, our development approach focused on aligning with how the client operates, not just what the codebase needed to do. We spent time understanding the roles of the business owner and tutors, how sessions were billed, and where the most friction occurred in day-to-day tasks. We built and tested tutor-facing features early on, giving a few trusted users access to a staging environment to validate workflows, pricing logic, and invoice management tools. Meanwhile, we developed the admin interface to give the manager full visibility and control over everything, with no compromise on privacy for individual tutors. Through tight feedback loops, we continued refining edge cases, such as mixed-rate bookings, disputed invoices, and the ability to generate summaries for payout tracking. ## What Our Clients Say We're proud to be top-rated across Google, Clutch and Glassdoor, all 5.0, reflecting our commitment to client satisfaction, quality work, and a strong company culture. - Testimonials: https://www.coretechs.com/testimonials/ - We went from a small task management system to a $2,000,000 robust software that runs our entire business.
